Woolverstone, Suffolk
About
Artist Jamie Limond proposes a wind assisted passage from the River Orwell in Suffolk to Ostend in Belgium, a pop-up exhibition, then sailing home.
As an RYA Ocean Yachtmaster, Jamie skippers an MCA coded sailboat called ‘Gaudeo’, a Bowman 40 (1994), Jamie organises sails and art residencies aboard, providing people with a perspective of the coast which is not available everyday for most.
The voyage from Woolverstone in the River Orwell to Ostend will be skippered by Jamie with at least one other experienced sailor onboard. We will have a maximum crew of four, and we should make the crossing in about 20 hours.
Once there, we will curate a 24 hour pop-up exhibition before sailing back (weather permitting). Our return will be in time for the Flagship sail with Beach of Dreams' Artistic Director Ali Pretty along the coast of Orfordness in the River Ore on the 29th May.
The sail requires a safe weather window. Jamie is therefore planning to be available from the 19th to the 27th May, but the voyage should only be 4 to 5 days (weather permitting).
The trip will be posted on Instagram @jamielimond.art where a link tracking the live passage across the channel will be available.
At the time of writing there remains space for one more crew member, and any interested parties are asked to apply via Jamie's website - be sure to click on the 'Beach of Dreams' button.
In the 'Comment' box please include: dates you cannot make during WC 19th & 26th May 2025, an outline of any experiences you have had afloat, and whether you have any history of motion sickness. In May the North Sea can be formidable (that said no prior sailing experience is required). As stated there is only one place currently available.
Jamie has included details of the departure point below, but no art event is organised yet as the departure and return times remain fluid.
Costs and payment details to be confirmed. A current passport (valid to December 2025) and any relevant VISAs are essential. Due to the nature of the sailing yacht it may not be accessible to everyone, individual needs can be discussed on a case by case basis.
