About

A culmination of a story-gathering project uniting communities in Great Yarmouth, Harwich, and Orford Ness, exploring how coastal heritage shapes identity and belonging.

3 East of England's coastal towns have been exploring a question with their local communities - What role does the shifting coast play in shaping our collective dreams?

Working alongside talented writers and digital artists, local voices have captured the essence of these ever-changing landscapes through heritage walks, creative workshops, and storytelling – uncovering 150 unique stories and images.

From Harwich’s Electric Palace Cinema to Orford Ness’s wild beauty and Great Yarmouth’s evolving shoreline, 52 participants and 8 volunteers have dedicated 100+ hours to storytelling and creative expression.

Their stories will take shape through digital content and silk pennants – part of the Beach of Dreams national commission, The Beach of Dreams Silks – unveiled in free, family-friendly events and walks from 28 – 30 May across the 3 locations. These pennants, symbols of shared history and creativity, will remain in their communities as a lasting legacy.

In Orford Ness this finale will involve journeys by water and land, workshops and story sharing from the project discoveries alongside the presentation of the silk pennants. Full details to follow.
