About
Sound artist, beatboxer, and DJ Jason Singh collaborates with TAPE Community Film and Music, alongside local community groups, to craft a bespoke soundscape that brings the natural beauty of Colwyn Bay to life. This immersive installation transforms the subtle signals from plants, animals, and the landscape into a captivating auditory experience. Through innovative sound design, participants are invited to engage with the environment in new and meaningful ways.
Presented at Prom Xtra, the soundscape will guide visitors along the Bay of Colwyn’s 3-mile coastline. Augmented reality plaques will further enrich the experience, offering binaural recordings, intimate voice notes, and a dynamic multi-channel soundscape that deepens the connection between listener and landscape.
Jason Singh is a highly regarded sound artist, beatboxer, DJ and workshop leader. His work spans sound installations in major museums, the outdoors, the creation of work through community residencies and live performances. He is a talented workshop and community facilitator, with a track record of working with young people in particular. His fascination with listening to plants, trees, wildlife and people creates beautiful, delicate multi-layered work that reflects the wonder of the natural world and resonates with a vast range of people. He has been commissioned by organisations including BBC, Kew Gardens, V&A, Milton Keynes Festival, Kinetika, and WOMAD.
TAPE Community Film and Music – based in Old Colwyn, North Wales - is an arts and media charity created and built upon the Social Model of Inclusion. TAPE’s weekly timetable supports people of all ages to engage and be involved with all kinds of creative workshops, including filmmaking, playing and recording music, animation, podcasting, art, creative writing, and more. They are currently in the research and development phase of their third feature film. The animated work, Below the Waves, is inspired by and set in the historical seaside town of Conwy and is being developed from script to screen using a co-creative production model.
The Bay of Colwyn Town Council represents a small area of the county, covering Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay, Upper Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn. The Bay of Colwyn Town Council is about to declare a climate and nature emergency. Taking part in Beach of Dreams will help them to bring people together and galvanise community support and recognise the impacts of climate change, encouraging individual and group pledges of creative climate action.
